In case you were wondering who might do the TnTT, here is a small sampling of some of the more notable usual suspects and some who have visited only once or twice (alphabetical order so that no one would be offended).
Tom Abdalla (Timer Tom) – Former pilot, flight instructor, air traffic controller (among numerous other professions), now he cycles and times the TnTT. Lovable and cuddly or so we’ve heard.
Ron Adams – Has forgotten more about cycling than most know. Campy aficionado. The king of pain. Frequently accompanied by wife Cheryl who occupies the “engine room” of their tandem.
Kyle Caparelli – Fast. Young. Racing in pro category in 2009.
Curtis Eaby – Original record holder on new course until Jimmy the Kid snatched it.
Jack Gonzalez - Owner of The Bike Shop in Ormond Beach. Won 2009 state time trial championship (Cat 4) among other things. Fast. Long time TnTT record holder (old course) except for Devin.
Bill Hannon – Fast. Wins races. Very rarely seen in small chainring. Did we say fast?
Devin Kinsella – Fast. Broke Jack’s record at last TnTT of 2008 season – that had to hurt.
James Legier (Jimmy the Kid) – Former champion speedskater. Smart, young and fast. With guidance, he’ll be a pro. Current course TnTT record holder.
Fred Miller (Fast Freddie) – Not the fastest of the group but for his late 60s, he’s pretty strong. And he’s persistent and keeps getting faster.
Colleen Nicoulin – Ironman. Women’s record holder on current course.
Dave Petkovsek (IronDave) – Ironman…more than once. When in shape, he will wear you out. RE dude.
John Sathe (Big John) – Long time Daytona Beach Bicycle Club president. Worked explosive ordnance disposal in Navy – not easily roused. Works at PC Bike.
Jake Scully – Part owner of PC Bike in Palm Coast and cross-country cyclist, he can be quick and entertaining.
Scott Tietzel – Pro. Raced with Jelly Belly. Now with DLP Racing.
